Grants

​The Queensland Department of Education's (DoE's) CLS program provides funding to support eligible, not-for-profit community language schools (CLS).

While the grants assist CLS to provide language programs, the grants are not intended to cover all of the costs associated with operating the CLS.​

CLS Grant Program

DoE manages payments of grants to individual CLS that have successfully applied for an annual grant.

CLS that have successfully applied for a grant will receive payment in February each year.

Grants are calculated according to eligible student attendance plus a base amount.

CLS may receive additional funding for students who have successfully completed the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) Senior External Examination.

In 2023, the most commonly studied languages in funded CLS were:

• Mandarin (61.7%)
• Vietnamese (12.3%)
• Tamil (6.8%)
• Korean (5.0%).
